It’s that time of the year again where the fancy dress comes out of hiding! However, finding an inexpensive costume can be stressful – especially when you’re only going to wear it once.

So, if you’re heading to a socially distanced gathering, going trick or treating or simply celebrating over Zoom – we’ve got you covered with some of the best DIY Halloween costumes which won’t horrify your bank account (We’ll leave that to Christmas, shall we?)

1) Zombie Movie Star 🎬

Are you a Marylin Monroe or James Dean fan? Then this one could be for you! First, look through your wardrobe and pick out something that your favourite iconic movie star would wear, basically anything retro or classy.

The next step depends on how much you want to commit to the look (and how much time you’ve got spare!), but it’s time to zombify your look by using fake blood, black makeup, and if you fancy, some contact lenses.

2) Error 404: Costume Not Found💾

Error 404 is what you see when you click on a broken link on a website. This is a perfect look for all you tech-savvy people out there and all you need is a white t-shirt and a black marker pen.

It’s a pretty low effort costume and if you don’t have a white t-shirt to hand, you can always print it off your Error 404 message and pin it to any t-shirt you fancy wearing. Simple. As. That.

3) Pop Artist 🎨

Time-consuming? Yes. Worth the effort? Probably.

Now this look is not for the fainthearted but if you’re feeling creative and have got some skin-safe pens markers to hand and some bright clothing– it won’t cost you a penny.

If you’re looking to create a pop-art look, there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube that you can follow which break it down step by step.

4) Cereal Killer 🥣🔪

All you need for this DIY Halloween costume is a cardboard box that fits around your body, some old cereal boxes, and if you’re really committing a knife (obviously a fake one, unless you fancy a prison sentence?)

All you need to do is cut holes in your arms and head and glue the cereal boxes down. Add some fake blood and stick some cereal crumbs on your creation and you’ll become the perfect breakfast time psycho.

5) Become a Basic Ghost 👻

Probably the most straightforward Halloween costume you could choose – but especially effective if time is of the essence and you don’t really care about putting tonnes of effort in. I don’t think this costume requires much information but for those of you who don’t know, it takes three easy steps.

  1. Take an old bedsheet
  2. Cut eye and mouth holes so you can see
  3. Put the sheet over your head

Now you can prepare to Scare… or more likely underwhelm with this costume.

6) Show Some Love to Your Best Friend by Dressing Like Them 👬

A little creepy? Absolutely – but isn’t that what Halloween is all about? All you need is access to their wardrobe and the ability to style your hair like theirs (a wig can help!).

It’s a convenient costume that won’t take much effort as being good mates means you probably already have ALL their mannerisms down to a tee!
